Day 1…Lucerne, Switzerland!
I promise, this may seem crazy and overwhelming, but that’s what I’m here for!! I have spent about 80 hours researching multiple sites, must do’s and favorite places and came up with the most spectacular 8 day Europe trip possible!!! I truly believe it!
Hopefully this blog will save you 80 hours and allow you to travel stress free! I have to warn you, we are a bit adventurous, but you could tweak the day activities accordingly. Everyone, adventurous or not, will be blown away by the beauty of these places!
Day 1 - We flew into Zurich, Switzerland and drove straight to Lucerne. I have spent time in Zurich on a separate trip, so I decided to stay in Lucerne instead. I do have to say Lucerne is much more charming than Zurich. Zurich was gorgeous of course, but I didn’t feel like I was in Switzerland (except for the landscape). It just felt like a big city feel instead of a unique, historical romantic vibe that Lucerne gives off. So we arrived at 10:45 am and drove 45 minutes straight to Lucerne and started exploring by foot!
We rented a car through expedia using Europcar. Since we are returning the car in Munich, it was a bit more expensive than usual. Rental Cars and Car Rentals at Zürich from Expedia
Feeling a little jet legged but pushing through!
This beautiful bridge, The Kapellbrücke (literally, Chapel Bridge) is a covered wooden footbridge diagonally across the Reuss River. We were able to walk to it in about 10 minutes from our hotel.
It was built in 1332!
We walked around all day exploring Lucerne. We decided not to do the Lucerne Lake tour on a boat, but I believe there were a lot of options to choose from and if we had more time, I probably would have.
I like to try and force romantic poses in romantic places!
See the boats behind us! We decided to rent bikes instead around the city. The bikes were $1.50/hour to rent, such a bargain!
We found an adorable restaurant along the river to eat at.
We dropped the bikes to get some serious art sculptures in.
There was a beautiful pathway for bikers and walkers along the lake.
Even my dad who was not super comfortable on a bike was able to navigate alongside the cars. Bikes are such a quicker way to get around a city faster and see more things!
There our a few cute little restaurants and bar surrounding Lake Lucerne, perfect for a stop on the bike!
We ate lunch and dinner along the river and we were able to just walk up and find openings. We did not make a reservation and we were able to sit outside and view the beautiful river and people watch, my favorite thing!
