Kotor, Montenegro
It’s a 4 hour drive to Kotor, Montenegro, but the roads were wide and it was easy to navigate. Not to mention, we drove along the coast so the views were gorgeous. This was right along the highway, so we pulled over to test it out = delicious winery.
We arrived to Kotor and the scenery was just stunning! This picture below was taken from our hotel lobby area.
Our hotel had amazing balcony views. It also had a beach bar and a pool that were unfortunately not opened yet in April. The temperatures in April were only in the 60s, not warm enough to jump in or swim, but pretty to look at!
The gorgeous bay below had a street and a walking path around the entire thing, so we walked along the water to find a spot for dinner.
We tried to order ravioli but this waiter said NO, you must get fish and brought out this fresh seabass and said $94 for this fish and we will make 3 different meals for you with it. We said sure, why not! They brought out some raw sushi, spaghetti with small pieces of fish in it and then the main meal.
For an activity, we decided to book a mountain biking tour through viator because you had to drive to the starting spot. We couldn’t access it from our hotel. I would definitely recommend a tour of some kind here:
Guided hikes
Canyoneering
Old Town walking toursOur guide was a
Kayaking
Boat exploring
Caves and Lagoons
We again chose, you guessed it….Biking!
Our guide was 30 year old native who was in the Montenegro army for a few years and then decided to start his own business by being a tour guide. He was amazing and we learned all about the history of the war in the 90s and how they just elected a new President 15 days prior that was going to change the country for the better.
We biked up this mountain right across the bay, right at the tip that I’m pointing to!
Not only did our guide take us to the top of the mountain, but he showed us many old fortresses that we got to walk through and explore even though it was a bit nerve-wracking and pitch black!
After, we explored Old Town on our own, but there were so many walking tours to book online on Viator or Trip Advisor that I would recommend. The buildings are from the 10th century and the architecture was unlike anything I’ve ever seen. I felt like I was in a fairy tale book.
If you want to see more of the trip, check out our next stop in Dubrovnik, Croatia!
